Volunteer

We love volunteers! Last year, volunteers provided more than 80,000 hours of support to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County (SVdP) - the equivalent of 42 full time staff positions! Volunteers help with all aspects of the organization, ranging from serving food to providing administrative support to painting. In all cases, volunteers help to promote human dignity and improve the lives of the poor.

Reports to: Program Director & Volunteer Manager
Location: 2260 San Pablo Ave, Oakland, 94612
Starting Date: ASAP
Ending Date: Ongoing
Frequency: Project Based
Duties:

The Visitation Center (a drop in center for homeless women and children, located near downtown Oakland) and main administrative offices of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County are seeking artists to help us harness the artistic potential of the youngsters who use our drop in services.

Important themes we would like to explore are homelessness and recycling, utilizing the creative forces of the children ages 3-12. The Society is rich in recyclable resources such as paper and cardboard. We also have a variety of art supplies at our disposal.

The children are with us between 9:00 and 2:00, Monday through Friday. Many of our younger-than-school-age children speak Spanish as their primary language. School-aged children are often more comfortable in English.
