Seldom Seen Acting Company
SVdP’s Seldom Seen Acting Company formed in 2005 from a group of homeless adults who wanted to share the stories of their life challenges. The company wanted the homeless to be seen and heard.
Members of the company work under the guidance of a professional drama director, write their own material and perform for local schools, churches and organizations. The productions focus on the themes of homelessness, addiction, incarceration, crumbling family relationships and the challenges facing those who live one step above the streets, unseen and unheard by much of society.
After each performance, company members invite questions from the audience and talk about their personal stories and experiences. This dialog provides education and understanding between people whose paths may not otherwise cross.
The company hopes to influence youth and young people to steer clear of substance abuse and bad decision-making in life. The actors seek to impart to all a sense of hope about family, health, life stability and dignity for all.
The company provided a series of workshops at a recent national St. Vincent de Paul meeting that was enthusiastically received by organizations from around the country.
