Al Morgan is the Man! Nominated to receive the Diocesan Medal of Merit, Al has been an instrumental part of ensuring the survival and vitality of his parish St. Vincent DePaul Ministry within the West Oakland Deanery, particularly at St. Andrew/St. Joseph and St. Patrick parishes.  Al also serves on the St. Vincent de Paul District Council of Alameda County as well as on the committee for the new Men's Center to be opened in early June, where his background as a career Air Force serviceman and retired Oakland Police employee has proved invaluable to his ministry.  Sr. Mark Sandy, the Manager of the St. Vincent DePaul free dining room facility wrote in her letter of nomination, "that despite his (Al's) current round of chemo and his inability to drive at this time, Al finds a chauffer, makes his usual rounds, and seldom misses a scheduled meeting."  Let's hear it for Al Morgan!

Ways to Help

Are you interested in helping to relieve the hunger crisis in Alameda County? Here's how to start:

  • Volunteer at the Free Dining Room. The Dining Room needs thirty volunteers each day to prepare, serve and clean up after meals. Volunteers can sign up to work once a week, once a month, or for a single day.
  • Promote food reclamation among local businesses. Encurage managers at local grocery stores to donate excess food to the Free Dining Room or the Food Locker.
  • Promote school breakfast and lunch programs. These free meals ensure that needy children have two nutricious meals five days a week.
  • Donate to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County. Your cash contribution supports the ongoing work of our Special Woorks program
