Volunteer

We love volunteers! Last year, volunteers provided more than 80,000 hours of support to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County (SVdP) - the equivalent of 42 full time staff positions! Volunteers help with all aspects of the organization, ranging from serving food to providing administrative support to painting. In all cases, volunteers help to promote human dignity and improve the lives of the poor.

Fresh Start Program

Title: Fresh Start Program
Reports to: Volunteer Manager
Location: Wherever you are!
Starting Date: ASAP
Ending Date: Ongoing
Frequency: Continuous
Duties:

Interested in doing something meaningful but don't have time? The Society wants to engage your giving nature from where you are.

The Society's drop in centers for men and women in Downtown Oakland have shower facilities. We provide our guests with a variety of hygiene products including soap, shampoo, razors, deodorant, and lotion.

Maybe you have such items laying around the house? Maybe you're one to collect the shampoos and other items offered by hotels and you have a stash "just in case?" Maybe you have a collection of products which didn't work for you but you don't want to throw them away? We need them.

If you are in an office, dorm or group, we can provide you with everything you need to collect these items for donation to the Society. We'll give you a box as well as a sample email/flyer to distribute and get the word out. When it's full, call us and we'll pick it up!
