Women and Children's Services

The Visitation Center for Women and Children provides a range of services to help homeless and disadvantaged women, mothers and children. Opened in 1991, the Center receives nearly 14,000 visits each year. The Center is part of SVdP’s downtown Oakland Community Center campus.

Kathleen’s story

Kathleen first came to the Visitation Center for Women and Children for an early-morning shower. For Kathleen, a homeless person who was trying to hold on to her job, the center’s atmosphere was warm and welcoming. She found the staff extremely helpful – they provided resources and referrals, helped with clothing and made available laundry services. With help for some basic needs and the compassionate service from the Visitation Center, Kathleen was able to get back on her feet.
