Emergency Shelter
1St. Vincent de Paul operates a 75-bed shelter in partnership with the City of Oakland, and is open 365 days a year.
Our shelter is open to men and women over the age of 18. Walk-up guests are welcome on a first come, first serve basis, but priority is given to those with a reservation*. We comply fully with ADA requirements, but do not allow pets of any kind - sorry! Guests are required to observe shelter rules and must remain respectful toward staff and other guests. Up to two bags may be brought, but which must fit under the guest's own cot. When the shelter is expected to be at capacity, guests with a reservation may enter at 6:00 p.m., while walk-up guests must wait until 9:00. The latest entry is 10:00 p.m., barring a special arrangement with the shelter manager. To obtain a reservation, you must have stayed in the shelter for 7 continuous days prior to the request. Free Dining Room
St. Vincent de Paul is committed to serving 600+ takeaway meals a day to our neighbors in Oakland, made from fresh ingredients reclaimed from local grocery stores. At our Free Dining Room, our guests can enjoy hot takeaway meals prepared by our staff and volunteers 5 days a week (Tuesday-Saturday). Enjoy French toast, bacon and eggs, pizza, curry, jambalaya, roasted vegetables, sloppy Joe's, and other lovingly prepared meals.
Lunch is served at the front gate from 10:45-11:40 and again from 12-12:45. Dinner and breakfast are served in the dining room for shelter guests.

Community Center
Our Community Center provides a safe, warm place where our guests can relax, read, play games, do work, meet other people and access many of St. Vincent de Paul's supplementary programs. Everything from bingo, nursing intakes, and free men's haircuts to participating in holiday events hosted by staff and volunteers.

Clothing Closet
The Clothing Closet is open from 1 to 3 p.m. during normal operating days, provided we have enough staff. It is located in the Community Center. Our guests may utilize the Closet once every 30 days to obtain 2 weeks worth of clothing at no cost. To use the the Closet, you must sign up ahead of time at the front desk.

Women's and Children's Centers
At our Women's Center, guests have access to our fully equipped showers and laundry facility along with free hygiene and feminine hygiene products. Our Children's center provides access to infant care supplies such as diapers, children's clothing, and more.
Workforce Development Program
Kitchen of Champion Culinary Job Training 'Cohort' is a full-time, 9 week workforce development program that provides culinary arts training and job placement support to prepare trainees for positions in food service industry. In the Kitchen of Champions program, students acquire basic training of professional culinary skills and commercial food service as well as personal and professional development skills. Training is offered free of charge by St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County and is available to low-income, re-entry, and at-risk individuals who face barriers to employment. Training is Tuesday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and is located at 675 23rd St. in Oakland.
SVdP graduates have been successfully employed by Brown Sugar Kitchen, Everett & Jones, Google Inc., Kitchen On Fire, Ms. Ollie's, Preferred Freezer, Roli Roti, Sears Outlet, and the Waterfront Hotel.

Mail Service
Registered clients with a current, signed mail agreement may receive mail sent to 2272 San Pablo Ave. Clients without a mail agreement cannot receive mail, and mail received for persons without a current mail agreement will be refused or returned. A valid, state-issued I.D. is required to pick up mail. In the event that the client is picking up a state-issued I.D., the printout from the DMV is required. Mail is never distributed the same day as it is received. The earliest potential opportunity to pick up mail received on particular day will be the next day the Community Center is open.
